Dr Inderjit kaur Patron-President of Pingalwara
Dr Inderjit Kaur is the Patron-President of All India Pingalwara Charitable Society (Regd.), Amritsar since 1992.
Born on 25th January, 1942, Dr. Kaur obtained M.B.B.S. degree from Govt. Medical College, Patiala in 1967. After rendering five years service with the Directorate of Health Service, Punjab, she took to private practice. Dr. Inderjit Kaur was tremendously influenced by Bhagat Puran Singh’s life and mission, who spent his entire life serving the abandoned, orphaned children and mentally retarded and poor, and constituted All India Pingalwara Charitable Society. After demise of her father in 1975, Bhagat Puran Singh ji took her as his daughter. She emulated him in all ways and devoted her attention and energy to the service of humanity. In 1986, Bhagat Puran Singh ji nominated Dr. Inderjit Kaur as his successor.
Dr. Inderjit Kaur has been Member/Trustee of Improvement Trust Sangrur from 1976 to 1981, Vice President of Indo-Soviet Cultural Society from 1977-81 and Member, Child Welfare Society, Punjab, from 1987-88. She was member of All India Pingalwara Charitable Society, Amritsar from 1987-88 and remained its Vice President from 1988 to 1992. The Pingalwara has broadened and expanded its activities under the able leadership of Dr. Inderjit Kaur. It now meets challenges thrown up by AIDS and drug addiction, providing free education for poor and marginalized. Pingalwara has expanded through establishment of many new centres like Sangrur and Palsora. Dr. Inderjit Kaur’s concern for handicapped, mentally challenged and deaf segment of society motivated her to establish school for special education, school for hearing impaired, Prosthetic and Physiotherapy centers for the patients in Pingalwara. She reaches out with deep sense of compassion to the victims of several Natural Calamities and man-made disasters. Under her guidance, Pingalwara has rushed relief measures to different parts of the country affected by earthquake, floods, tsunami and various other natural calamities..Dr. Inderjit Kaur has tremendous concern for environment issues, preservation of natural resources, prevention of deforestation, pollution control and natural farming. Periodically awareness programmes through seminars & workshops are conducted to propagate these issues.Dr. Inderjit Kaur has received numerous Honours, Awards and Distinctions in India and Abroad for her contributions towards charities and social causes. These include the Mai Bhago Award by Punjab Govt., Panj Pani Award by Doordarshan Jalandhar, Bal Sahyog Award by Delhi Govt. and Bhagat Puran Singh Awards by Baba Farid Foundation, Faridkot & Punjabi Heritage Organization, Palatine, Chhicago (USA). In the year 2006, she was presented, Vibrant Indian Award by Developer India Foundation, Chennai. In the year 2008, she was awarded Sri Rama Award by Himalayan Institute Hospital Trust, Dehradun. In January 2008, she was awarded Padam Bhushan Award by Govt. of India. In July 2008, she was awarded, ‘Excellence Among Sikhs Trophy’ by Sikh Council on Religion and Education (SCORE) USA and in December 2008, she was awarded National Minorities Rights Award by National Commission for Minorities. ‘Mata Khiwi Award’ by Gurdwara Sahib Washington DC – Sep 2013, ‘Life Time Service Award’ by Sikh Religious Society Palatine and Punjabi Heritage Organization Chicago USA – 2013, Life Time Achievement Award by Sikh Directory London-2012,In the year 2004 she was invited to the Council for Parliament of World Religions Meet at Barcelona, Spain. In the year 2005 for her dedication towards suffering humanity, downtrodden and destitutes she was presented with a welcome Address in the Canadian Parliament.
