OUR MISSION: – Bhagat Puran Singh Institute for Special Needs cultivates the professional knowledge, skills, ethical values and dispositions necessary to render services in the field of disability & rehabilitation.
ESTABLISHMENT: – Bhagat Puran Singh Institute for Special needs was established in 2018. It provides free education to girls. The college runs two courses in Special Education.
- Diploma in Special Education (Intellectual Developmental Disability)
- Diploma in Special Education (Hearing Impairment)
The courses are recognized by the Rehabilitation Council of India, a Statutory Body under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India.
FUNDING: – The Instituite is being run with the active support of Pingalwara Society of Ontario, Canada and All India Pingalwara Charitable Society (Regd.), Amritsar
COURSE DURATION: – The duration of the course will be Two years (Four Semesters). Each semester will have at least 225 hours of theory papers (75 hours per paper) and 375 hours of practicals. On completion of four semesters, the total theory hours would be 900 hours and 1500 hours would be practicals.
ELIGIBILITY: – Students who have passed 10+2 or equivalent with 50% of marks in any stream are eligible to seek admission. Every year a fresh batch of 35 students is enrolled in the Academic Session through Online Aptitude Test conducted by RCI.
AGE LIMIT: – No Age bar.
MEDIUM OF INSTRUCTION: – The medium of instruction is English/Hindi/ Punjabi.
CLASSROOMS: – The Institute has well-furnished classrooms. Seating capacity of each classroom is about 35 to 45 trainees. The classrooms have all modern teaching aids―LEDs, LCDs, Laptops, White Boards, etc.
EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS: – Seminars, Workshops, CRE programs, CBR programs are conducted from time to time for better performance by teachers and trainees.
LIBRARY: – The Institute has a well-equipped library with about 500 Reference books and 3500 Curriculum books. Our library has computers with internet access to provide students with the resources they need for research, studying, and academic work.
CONFERENCE HALL: – 1. Seating capacity of 300 persons 2. Audio-Visual support.
HEARING ASSESSMENT ROOM: – Hearing test equipment, Brain stem evoked response audiometry, Audiometer, Speech trainer.
OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY ROOM: – There is a well-designed Occupational therapy room focused on
Motor development & sensory integration needs of Special children. Trainees are made aware about the role of occupational therapy in educational environments.
SPORTS & FITNESS: – The Institute has both indoor & outdoor sports facilities. The Yoga program is also organized.
INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY (ICT): – The Institute provides platform for students to strengthen the ICT skills and make them learn through computer aided learning process.
INTERNSHIP PROGRAM: – The Institute provides internship program for its students in a school setting.
CAREER OPPORTUNITIES: – Special education teacher, educational support professional, roles in inclusive classrooms, special education schools, or community-based organisations.
