33rd death anniversary of Bhagat Puran Singh Ji

On 5th August 2025 the concluding program in the series commemorating the 33rd death anniversary of Bhagat Puran Singh Ji, the founder of Pingalwara, was held. The event started with the Bhog of the “Sahaj Path” of guru granth sahib ji. On this occasion, children of the All India Pingalwara Charatibale Society  performed divine Gurbani Kirtan in the presence of Guru Granth Sahib Ji. Alongside them, Kirtani Jathas (devotional singing groups) from Bhagat Puran Singh Gurmat College, Rajewal-Rohno, and Sahibzada Jujhar Singh Missionary Gurmat College, Chaunta Kalan, as well as Bhai Jasbir Singh from Punjab & Sind Bank, delighted the audience with their kirtan performances.

At the forefront of the event Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargajj, Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, addressed the congregation and shared that Bhagat Puran Singh Ji Pingalwara is God’s home in a practical manner. He emphasized how the concerns expressed by Bhagat Ji decades ago about the environment and society are becoming increasingly realistic today. His farsightedness has always provided valuable guidance to society.

Bhai Surjit Singh, Head Granthi of Shaheedan Sahib, in his address, stated that Bhagat Ji truly embodied Gurbani in his life. Among millions, very few care so deeply about the welfare of humanity. He added that walking the path shown by Bhagat Ji would be the truest tribute to him.

On this occasion, three books edited by Dr. Inderjit Kaur — “Democracy”, “His Sacred Burden”(by author Reema Anand), and “Rah Akkan Toṅ Kauṛe”, which highlight the condition of women — were released by Deputy Commissioner of Amritsar, Smt. Sakshi Sawhney. A special edition depicting of Souvenir the activities of the Pingalwara organization was also presented to the public. Deputy Commissioner Smt. Sakshi Sawhney IAS praised Bhagat Puran Singh ji and Pingalwara’s humanitarian service and urged the general public to bring their children to visit the Pingalwara institution so they can learn about the selfless service of Bhagat Ji and incorporate it into their lives. Two individuals — Bibi Mahinder Kaur and Bibi Hartejpal Kaur — who have been serving the Pingalwara institution for decades, were honored with the Bhagat Puran Singh Humanitarian Service Award. The award money given to them by the institution was humbly returned by them as a donation to Pingalwara. Smt. Sakshi Sawhney appreciated and encouraged both recipients of the award. A large gathering of devotees from across India and abroad arrived to pay tribute to Bhagat Ji. The guests who attended were also honored. Several speakers expressed concern for the environment. Farmer leader S. Balbir Singh Rajewal and Ms. Geeta from Jharkhand spoke on the deteriorating environmental condition. Environmentalist Amitoj Mann addressed the audience and emphasized the need for collective action against pollution to save Punjab, Punjabis, and humanity. Bibi Navneet Kaur Bhullar also expressed strong resentment towards the government for its lack of seriousness regarding environmental issues.

Dr. Inderjit Kaur thanked the attending congregation and said that walking the path shown by Bhagat Ji and supporting the works he initiated is the truest tribute to him. She also expressed deep gratitude for the love blessings showend by the devotees towards Pingalwara. She described Bhagat Ji as a true and pure philosopher-warrior who continuously fought against all forms of injustice and inspired others to live a disciplined life. The stage was nicely managed by S. Amarjeet Singh.

Various groups of Pingalwara also set up exhibitions displaying the organization’s activities. Throughout the day, Guru Ka Langar (community kitchen) was served without interruption. Baba Surinder Singh Ji offered a Langar of “kheer-mall Pure”. S. Avtar Singh Khalsa provided iron bangles (kada) for wearing, and Major Singh Masani served an unending supply of banana shake, during the function. S. Avtar along with his team collected pattals (leaf plates) of the sangat and this was done all five days. They then sent these pattals to the fields as manure and did marvellous work.
