Chess tournament for the Deaf Children

Punjab State chess tournament at Pingalwara

Punjab State chess tournament for the Deaf was jointly organised by Punjab Deaf Sports association and All India Pingalwara charitable Society, Amritsar on 31st January at Pingalwara, Manawala complex, Amritsar. The competition was conducted under the supervision of Punjab Chess Association and was inaugurated by S. Narinder Singh, chairman of the Punjab Chess Association. He assured everyone that all out efforts would be made to promote Chess amongst the Deaf people.
A total of 12 boys and 7 girls took part in the competition. In the males above 16 years of age category Mr. Sham (Barnala) came first; Surinder (Fazilka) second; Nitin ( Amritsar) third; Sumit Chopra (Fazilka) fourth and Amritpal (Amritsar) came in the fifth position. In the girls above 16 years of age category like every year Malika (Jalandhar) was first, Kulvinder (Amritsar) second and Sharanjit (Amritsar) came third. In the girls below 16 years of age Navdeep (Amritsar) was first. Malika, the current deaf Asian Chess champion advised everyone to work hard and with complete dedication to improve the standard of Chess amongst the deaf people. Malika has taken part in 8 national tournaments and is the only Deaf woman to hold a world ranking.
On this occasion from Punjab Deaf Sports Association, Gen Secretary Rinku Singhal, President ,Amandeep Sharma were present. Mr. Rohit Sharma from the Punjab Chess Association, Mrs Daljit kaur, Principal Bhagat Puran Singh School for the Deaf; S. Rajbir Singh Trustee Pingalwara; S. Jai Singh, Adminstrator Pingalwara, Manawala and others were present.
