Sewa Tapasya Day was celebrated at Amritsar RailwayStation
02 June 2024 as part of a series of events dedicated to the birthday of Bhagat Puran Singh Ji, the founder of the Pingalwara, Sewa Tapasya Day was celebrated at Amritsar Railway Station. Bhagat Puran Singh ji’s service to the disabled and sick patients sitting outside the railway station was remembered. On this occasion, under the guidance of Dr. Inderjit Kaur, Mukh Sewadar Pingalwara, this penance day was celebrated at peak hot time from 12 noon to 03 pm by remembering Bhagat Puran Singh ji. The inmates of Pingalwara squatted here on the road. On this occasion, Dr. Inderjit Kaur ji told that at this place, the great saint Bhagat Puran Singh ji started a service campaign for the needy destitutes and brought Pingalwara into existence. After the partition of the country, refugee camp was established in the premises of Khalsa College Amritsar, which housed 25,000 refugees. But in the camp there was no arrangement for the treatment of patients. Bhagat Ji of its own took this responsibility and served the needy patient till Dec 1947. As the camp was disbanded on this date Bhagat ji temporarily shifted the patients for some days on the road in front of Chief Khalsa Divan. After that he moved on to the Tanga stand of `Amritsar Railway Station under a pipal tree. Bhagat ji started this service in January 1948. During this sit in on the road the prominent speakers elaborated the selfless service done by Bhagat ji here in their speeches. Bhagat ji used to beg food from Pritam Dhaba and Joginder Dhaba adjoining Railway Station for his patients. Remembering those old days these two dhabas donated and distributed free langar to all the squatting persons. S Pritam Singh and S. Joginder Singh ji, the owner of dhabas were honoured later on. Dr. Kunwar Vijay Partap was specially present there as he is attached with the Pingalwara Permanently.
