Condolences meeting in memory of Late S. Surjit Singh Barnala former Cabinet Minister and Governor
Today on 16th January 2017 a condolence meeting was held in Pingalwara to mourn the untimely demise of S. Surjit Singh Barnala Patron All India Pingalwara Charitable Society (Regd.), Amritsar.
Dr.Inderjit Kaur told the meeting that S. Surjit Singh Barnala had very long and close association with Bhagat Puran Singh Ji. During his long political career, he held the prestigious appointments of Chief Minister of Punjab, Central Minister Lt. Governor of Uttrakhand Pondicherry and Andaman & Nicobar and was Governor of Andhra Pradesh & Tamil Nadu for a long time.
During turmoil of 1979 when Morarji Desai resigned he was almost selected to head the Government as Prime Minister but due to certain reasons he could not hold that appointment.
He had firm believe in Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji and led his life as per the teachings of Gurbani. He was closely associated with Sant Harchand Singh Longowal and attended his annual anniversary regularly. He was also closely associated with eminent environmentalist Sh. Sundar Lal Ji Bahuguna who used to love and respect him a lot. He has also condoled his death. S. Surjit Singh Barnala was an honest, kind and an outstanding Administrator. Apart from politics he also indulged in writing & Painting also.
His sudden demise is an irreparable loss to the state of Punjab in general and pingalwara in particular. Pingalwara Parivar mourns his death by observing two minutes silence.
On this occasion Vice President Dr. Jagdeepak Singh, Hony. Secy. Ar. Mukhtar Singh, Member Pingalwara Society Rajbir Singh, Administrator Col. Darshan Singh Bawa, General Manager Tilak Raj and many others were present.
