SURGERY
On 18th and 19th April 2015 at Manawala Complex of Pingalwara, live cochlear implant surgery was performed on a 6 year old deaf boy, Dharmvir Singh and 5 year old girl Mehak belonging to very poor families. These operations were performed by a team led by Padam shri awardee and eminent cochlear implant surgeon Sh. J.M. Hans. The cost of these implants at Rs. 6.5 lac each were borne entirely by Pingalwara.
During the CME on 19th April 2015, Dr. Inderjit kaur while welcoming the eminent assembly of ENT Faculty of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal, Delhi and Chandigarh explained the ethos of Pingalwara and contribution of Bhagat Puran Singh. Pingalwara has been able to perform this outstanding feat for the third time. Earlier in 2010 two cochlear implants were done and again in 2013 one cochlear implant was carried out. The CME was attended by about 280 experts from the region. During the CME life time achievement awards were conferred on Dr.Brij Mohan Abrol, senior consultant and chairman dept. of ENT at PSRI New Delhi and DR. Ajit singh Khorana, an eminent surgeon. Dr. Ashok Gupta and Dr. Vikas kakkar prof and head PGI chandigrah were honored as special guests.
