Pingalwara’s Ramesh Wins Two Gold Medals in Hong Kong

Pingalwara’s Special Child Ramesh Makes India Proud by Raising the Tricolour in Hong Kong

Under a joint project of All India Pingalwara Charitable Society (Regd.), Amritsar, and Pingalwara Society of Ontario, Ramesh, a special student of Bhagat Puran Singh Special School, has brought great honour to Pingalwara, Punjab, and India through his outstanding performance at the international level. He secured a remarkable victory at the Special Olympics East Asia Bowling Competition 2026 in Hong Kong.

Ramesh participated in competitions held in Hong Kong from 4 September to 9 September 2026. He secured first place in both the doubles competition and the mixed-team competition, winning two gold medals. He also achieved fourth place in the singles competition, giving an impressive demonstration of his talent.

Ramesh was brought to the Manawala Branch of the Pingalwara institution in 2018. At that time, he was physically weak and experienced difficulty in walking and moving around. Pingalwara provided him with continuous care, medical treatment and physiotherapy, which resulted in significant improvement in his physical abilities.

In 2019, Ramesh was admitted to Bhagat Puran Singh Special School. When he first came to school, he was very quiet and did not communicate with anyone. Gradually, with the school’s education, the hard work of the teachers and the loving environment, a major transformation took place in him.

Today, Ramesh not only communicates with others but also actively participates in the school’s educational, vocational and sports-related activities.

Ramesh has a very calm and friendly nature. He helps other students at school, listens to his teachers and pays particular attention to maintaining personal cleanliness. He especially enjoys colouring and helping other children.

On 26 July 2020, Ramesh participated in the Special Olympics Virtual Table Tennis Championship, where he secured first place and a gold medal.

Later, he participated in the National Bowling Championship held from 1 to 5 September 2024, where he won a bronze medal.

At the National Bowling Championship held in Delhi from 20 to 24 April 2026, Ramesh won silver and gold medals. Following this, he participated in Bowling Preparatory Camps 1, 2 and 3 and, based on his excellent performance, was selected to represent India at the international competition.

Finally, at the Special Olympics East Asia Bowling Competition 2026 in Hong Kong, he won two gold medals, bringing honour to the Pingalwara institution, Punjab and India.

Behind Ramesh’s international success, besides his own hard work, dedication and determination, there has been a major contribution from Coach Navdeep Singh, Principal Mrs. Anita Batra, and the Pingalwara institution. Coach Navdeep Singh has been continuously training Ramesh in bowling with hard work, dedication and commitment for the past three years. Their efforts have significantly enhanced Ramesh’s sporting skills and self-confidence.

On 10 September 2026, Ramesh was warmly welcomed at Amritsar Railway Station by Pingalwara’s Chief Sewadar Dr. Inderjit Kaur and members of the society. He was welcomed with flower garlands and drums upon his arrival. Several dignitaries and representatives from educational, sports and social organisations were also present.

A special felicitation ceremony was subsequently organised at the Pingalwara Amritsar head office, where S. Gurminder Singh, SDM Amritsar-2, participated and shared his valuable thoughts. Dr. Inderjit Kaur, Chief Sewadar, welcomed all the distinguished guests and shared her views on the occasion.

The event was attended by members of Pingalwara’s management, administrators, staff, ward sewadars and other officials.

Ramesh’s international victory is an inspiring example that when children with special needs receive the right opportunities, continuous support, love, education and encouragement, they too can demonstrate their abilities and make their mark on the world stage.
