Pingalwara Charitable Institution successfully reunited a man, Sunny Deol, with his family after he had been missing for the past 13 years.
It is noteworthy that the patient was found in an abandoned and helpless condition at Amritsar Railway Station. He was suffering from severe mental illness, and the finger of his left hand was badly infected with maggots. Pingalwara admitted him for treatment and arranged his medical care at the Amritsar Mental Hospital.
During the course of his treatment, repeated counselling sessions were conducted by Mr. Gulshan Ranjan, Medical Social Worker at Pingalwara. Over time, the patient was able to recall and reveal his address as Village Chanti, Sarai Madan Singh, Prayagraj District, Uttar Pradesh.
Based on this information, Pingalwara contacted the Holagarh Police Outpost through internet resources to verify the location of the village. The police provided the contact number of the village Sarpanch. Subsequently, the institution contacted Mr. Harsh Mani Shukla, the Sarpanch of Village Chanti, shared the patient’s details along with his photographs and videos for identification. After verification, the Sarpanch confirmed that the patient belonged to their village and had been missing for several years.
Thereafter, a video call was arranged between the patient and his family members. Today, the patient’s elder brother Rajesh Kumar, his sister Sudama Devi, and his uncle Ashish Kumar arrived at Pingalwara to take him home.
The family informed that the patient is married and has a 14-year-old son, who has been living with his maternal grandparents. They expressed their heartfelt gratitude to Pingalwara Charitable Institution for its dedicated efforts in tracing and reuniting their long-lost family members.
On this occasion, Dr. Inderjit Kaur, Chief Sewadar of Pingalwara, stated that the institution successfully treats and rehabilitates nearly 200 abandoned and destitute patients every year, helping them reunite with their families. She further emphasized that the families are advised not to discontinue the patient’s medication after rehabilitation. In case of any difficulty in obtaining medicines, they are encouraged to contact Pingalwara, where the required medicines can be provided.
Among those present on the occasion were Chief Administrator Mr. Yogesh Suri, Mr. Gulshan Ranjan, Mr. Tilak Raj, and other members of the institution.
