Pingalwara Announces Environmental Awareness Centenary and Expands Humanitarian Initiatives

On 24-02-2026, a press conference was organized at the Head Office of the All India Pingalwara Charitable Society (Regd.), Amritsar. On this occasion, the head of the institution, Dr. Inderjit Kaur Ji, stated that Bhagat Puran Singh Ji had initiated the campaign for environmental protection as early as 1927, and the year 2027 will mark 100 years of this movement. In this regard, Pingalwara will celebrate the “Environmental Awareness Centenary.”

On this centenary occasion, various awareness activities will be organized. Letters have been sent to the heads of schools, colleges, and universities across Punjab to educate students about environmental conservation and to spread the message of Bhagat Puran Singh Ji to the younger generation.

Dr. Inderjit Kaur Ji, while giving suggestions to deal with natural disasters like floods, emphasized that bamboo and khas plants should be planted extensively along weak river embankments to prevent soil erosion and reduce the risk of floods. She said that planting trees and protecting nature is the greatest need of the time, and every citizen should contribute towards it.

She also appealed to minimize the use of paper and stated that a simple and resource-conscious lifestyle is the true teaching of Bhagat Ji. She presented handwritten official documents of Bhagat Puran Singh Ji to demonstrate that great humanitarian work can be accomplished even with limited resources. She urged everyone to extend full cooperation in making the “Environmental Awareness Centenary” celebrations a success.

She further appealed to the government to establish a special university dedicated to environmental conservation, so that future generations can receive higher education in this field and become aware and responsible citizens committed to protecting the environment.

Additionally, she requested the government to issue a commemorative coin in the name of the great philanthropist and environmentalist, Sant Bhagat Puran Singh Ji, to honor his invaluable service to humanity and the environment at a national level.

She emphasized that if the government takes concrete steps in this direction, it will further enhance awareness about environmental protection in society and inspire the younger generation to consider caring for nature as their duty. Such initiatives will not only honor an individual but also create a nationwide movement for environmental conservation.

It was also informed that “Bhagat Puran Singh Ward” has been established at Guru Nanak Dev Hospital and Sri Guru Ramdas Hospital, where destitute and abandoned patients are being cared for. So far, around 100 such patients have received treatment and support through these wards.

Expanding this service initiative further, the All India Pingalwara Charitable Society (Regd.), Amritsar is starting a new “Bhagat Puran Singh Ward” in Chandigarh. This ward will accommodate and provide treatment facilities for approximately 5 to 6 patients. The objective is to provide not only medical treatment but also compassionate care and a safe environment to destitute and abandoned patients.

She stated that Pingalwara remains continuously committed to both humanitarian service and environmental protection and appealed to all sections of society to join this noble cause. The Chief Administrator of Pingalwara, Yogesh Suri Ji, informed that the organization will launch a “Say No to Envelopes” campaign. Under this initiative, stalls will be set up in various markets of Amritsar to distribute free cloth bags to the public in large numbers.
