Pingalwara Marks 122nd Birth Anniversary of Bhagat Puran Singh Ji

Today, on the third and final day of the three-day series of programs dedicated to the 122nd birth anniversary of Bhagat Puran Singh Ji, founder of the All India Pingalwara Charitable Society (Regd.), Amritsar, the institution organized the Bhog (concluding ceremonies) of the Sehaj Path and Sri Sukhmani Sahib Path. The children of Pingalwara presented soul-stirring Gurbani Kirtan, which deeply inspired and delighted the congregation gathered in the pandal.

Thereafter, the renowned Gurbani Kirtan Jatha led by Bhai Jasbir Singh Ji of Punjab & Sind Bank connected the congregation with the divine remembrance of Waheguru through melodious and spiritual Gurbani Kirtan.

On this occasion, Dr. Inderjit Kaur, Mukh Sewadar of Pingalwara, welcomed the congregation and, in her address, stated that Bhagat Puran Singh Ji’s noble vision for society is unparalleled. Sharing several memories from Bhagat Ji’s life, she said that he was a true patriot in the real sense of the term, as he cared deeply about the existence and well-being of all living beings. He consistently cautioned people against the misuse and exploitation of natural resources.

She further announced that the Centenary Year of Environmental Awareness, inspired by Bhagat Puran Singh Ji’s concern for environmental protection, would be observed throughout the year. She emphasized that the present age urgently requires environmental awareness, and therefore various outreach and awareness campaigns will be undertaken in the coming months to educate the public.

Addressing the gathering, noted agricultural and economic expert Shri Devinder Sharma expressed concern over the deteriorating condition of small farmers in India. He regretted that governments have not shown adequate seriousness toward farmers’ problems. He stated that the indiscriminate use of pesticides and chemical inputs in agriculture is causing numerous serious and life-threatening diseases among people.

He further remarked that the natural farming practices being promoted by Pingalwara serve as a model for the world and that both governments and farmers should take inspiration and guidance from these efforts.

On this occasion, under the leadership of Dr. Inderjit Kaur, distinguished guests, scholars, and members of the Pingalwara Society jointly released:

The annual Pingalwara Souvenir, The Hindi book “Zameeni Sachai” (Ground Reality) authored by agricultural expert Shri Devinder Sharma, A book on Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji, the Ninth Sikh Guru; and The English-language publication “Plastic: Threat to Health and Environment.”

Several speakers also addressed the gathering and encouraged people to draw inspiration from the virtues, ideals, and humanitarian service exemplified by Bhagat Puran Singh Ji.

During the ceremony, Bhai Surjit Singh Ji, Head Granthi, along with the distinguished guests, was honoured by the institution.

The congregation also appealed to the government to establish an Environmental University dedicated to environmental education, research, and conservation.

In addition, an exhibition showcasing handmade artworks and creative projects prepared by students from the schools and centres operated under the Pingalwara Institution was organized on the occasion.
